Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation

Southwest Boston Community Development Corporation works with partners to build and sustain a thriving, economically diverse community in Hyde Park and Roslindale. We work to prevent displacement, particularly of low- and moderate-income families and elderly residents, create and preserve affordable housing, strengthen the commercial base of the neighborhoods, ensure access to good transit, protect conservation land and waterways, and promote climate resiliency. We are committed to working with local leaders whose voices are not otherwise heard. We are committed to creating more equitable neighborhoods.

Our climate, health, and equity work is most focused on:

Our climate, health, and equity work is most focused on 1) Supporting proposed city ordinances such as Green Corp that would provide environmental jobs training and placement for low-income residents of color, including youth and adults; 2) Advocating for state legislation that will fund green affordable housing and green infrastructure projects as well as green job training programs; 3) Advocating for conversion of the Fairmount commuter rail line (which runs along neighborhoods at are over 90% low income people of color) from diesel to electric; 4) Working with local residents to advocate for protection of existing woodlands and increasing tree canopy in neighborhoods.

This is important because:

Our neighborhoods are the hardest hit by the impacts of climate change due to little tree canopy, diesel pollution, and lack of jobs and energy efficient housing.
